Local Chapters: Help an Iraqi Ally Near You
![]()
In 2007, an elderly woman - the mother of an Iraqi on the List - was resettled to North Carolina. She knew no one, spoke little English, and the non-profit assigned to getting her situated was little help. The List Project linked her up with a local church, and they helped take care of her until her daughter arrived from Jordan.
The List Project is encouraging similar efforts in regions around the country. While we have no interest in setting up a massive, inefficient bureaucracy, we are currently raising money to hire a full time grassroots coordinator. A local chapter currently exist in the Washington DC area, but the outpouring of support has been so literally overwhelming that until we can hire a full time coordinator, we have put the following procedure in place for starting a local chapter to assist an Iraqi ally:
1) Let the Project know that you are interested in helping an Iraqi in your area.
2) Gather some friends, perhaps from your faith community, university or other network. Download this document for recommendations on group organizing.
3) When your group reaches 15 members let us know. We will then put you in touch with an Iraqi in your area and advise you on how to proceed.
