Netroots Milestone!

Netroots has reached a historic milestone...we now have over 1000 members!  The List Project team would like to welcome all of our new members and thank our volunteers for helping us make Netroots such a success.

We also want to highlight some of the new resources that Netroots volunteers have created to help our members and our Iraqi friends.  There are two new groups, The TLP Library of Information and the TLP Troubleshooters, which are dedicated to answering questions and providing informational materials on the resettlement process.  Please encourage your chapter to use these resources to help Iraqis in your community!

Next month, the List Project team and a few of our volunteers will be hosting a conference call. We will be focusing on many topics, including tips on how to energize your chapter, working with voluntary resettlement agencies, Netroots safety, helping Iraqis in your area find employment and much more.  The List Project will also be posting helpful resources for you and your chapter to use in the near future.  Information for the call will be posted next week on the home page of Netroots.

For all of you new Netrooters, please don't forget to 'Tell the President'!  We need your help to let the new administration know about the 'Guam Option'.  To learn more about this issue please visit: www.thelistproject.org/guam

In closing, the List Project would like to address the issue of privacy on Netroots.  Some members have expressed concern over access to member information and we would like to remind you that Netroots is an open website.  Please note that any information you post on your personal pages can be viewed by visitors to the website.  Please email us with any concerns or questions.

What We've Been Up To: The Events Edition!

2009 is starting off on a busy and exciting note for The List Project!

On January 10th The List Project's NYC Chapter held an exciting fundraiser with almost 80 guests.  The evening was full of middle eastern food and drink, belly dancers and dabke lessons!
Organized by Sara Faust, Maddy Marx and Ann McKittrick, the event brought in almost $1500!  The money will be used for needy NY-area families, Amazon wish lists and advocacy purposes.

On January 12th The List Project was happy to take part in a special performance of George Packer's play 'Betrayed', hosted by Refugees International.  Distinguished guests included Samantha Power, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matt Dillon and many others!  Kirk Johnson was part of a stimulating post-production panel and the special performance coincided with the long-awaited release of the 'Guam Option' policy paper from the Center for American Progress.  Please learn more about the 'Guam Option' here and read the policy paper online here

Coming up: On Martin Luther King Day, January 19th, a Job Training Workshop for recently resettled refugees in the NY area!  In response to President-elect Obama's call for Americans to renew their commitment to volunteerism and join forces for a national day of service, TLP and two other New York based non-profits (CAMBA and Intersections International) are collaborating on a national service project to help recently resettled refugees find meaningful employment in the New York City area.  Volunteers from WATCH-NYC will be working to help participants strengthen their job search skills and will offer one-on-one resume critiques, mock interviews and more!

Please stay tuned for more events and always remember to list your upcoming events on the Netroots Calendar.  Be sure to post your pictures and let TLP know about your event!

Time is Running Out at Change.gov

The Presidential Inauguration is less than two weeks away and The List Project needs your help!

Last week we wrote a blog dedicated to the launch of the CAP-TLP plan which calls for immediate action for our Iraqi allies.  TLP asked you to take a couple of minutes online to post your views on President-elect Obama's transition website (www.change.gov) and we need more of you to take part!  Since change.gov is the transition website it may close down once Mr. Obama takes office.

Please voice your support for this plan!
